it ran on a version of WindowsCE. By doing so, hackers were able to bypass system security easily, and within months.
It got to the point where "release groups" would encode an "autoboot" sector onto their downloadable game images. You'd burn the game image using Pradus' DiscJuggler (cd-r program), put in the Dreamcast, and play.
no mod chips, no wires, no mess, no nothing.
Hands down, Dreamcast = my favorite system of all time.
