You just want to disconnect the intake tube from the throttle body. Any hose that connects directly to the intake manifold is a vacuum hose. The method you speak of will work to an extent.

If you are positive there is a leak somewhere, you can spray Throttle Body or Carb cleaner around the IM and look for bubbles.
