Just rotate the engine via the crank pulley and shine a light thru the starter hole and make sure the teeth on the flywheel aren't messed up. Taking your spark plugs out will make it easier to riotate the engine by hand. The crank pulley bolt is 17mm, I believe, and you should rotate it counter-clockwise.
