I wasn't around here for the '00 elections, but I remember when Bush declared war, and the '04 elections, all the democrats including myself came out of the woodwork. Now there's a bit of turnabout and it looks like most of the people on here reinforcing their own beliefs are the ones who lost this particular election.

The following is all a bunch of my typical acerbic limousine liberal blather, so if you don't like it don't bother to try and rebut me because playing the I'm-more-subjectively-correct-about-this-subjective-issue-than-you game is just fucking lame.

If it makes you happy, nearly every state that had a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage on the ballot, the referendum passed. Personally, I don't give a shit about gay people getting married or not, I'm not all up in arms that they need more rights, but damn if I'll agree with using state or federal constitutional amendments to ban things.

Wisconsin also had a resolution to bring back the death penalty that passed by a pretty healthy margin, which honestly I found a bit surprising. Then again not so much, since this has become much more of a swing state since the time when the death penalty was taken off the books.

I'm happy, because with the overwhelming majority in the House and the very slim one in the Senate, there's enough clout to introduce left-leaning policy that Dubya won't necessarily veto. I'm also happy to be rid of that scumbag Rumsfeld, who had the arrogance to on his way out say that his only regret was that the public was too shortsighted to see how exemplary this administration's handling of Iraq really was. What a cocksucker.

But the past 6 years have certainly fucked things up plenty in my opinion. The Supreme Court is still stacked way to the right thanks to you assholes having control of the presidency and congress. There's a huge setback with the aforementioned using of state constitutions to ban something. I don't care if there was a majority, "the people have spoken" and thusandsuch, sometimes the people are damned stupid.

There really was no shift to the left in the country, it's still a bunch of ignorant, sensationalist, jingoistic, isolationist, me-first, fuck the other guy, pieces of shit. The shift was that people got sick enough of the Iraq situation that they decided to clean house. I can only hope that the democrats take the opportunity to make real improvements without repeating the tax and spend policies from the last time they had any sort of majority, and maaaaybe the voting public will like what they see enough to keep the current balance around.

And of course, we still have the same moron in the driver's seat.

Lastly...Russ Feingold for president in '08 because he's the motherfucking MAN.
