I've never had it come on with my '93 Accord and I've run it for about 50 miles after the E. I think you have to get it pretty dry to turn the light on. Plus, when you hit E, you still have like 2-3 gallons left. I wouldn't run my car dry unless you really think it's worth it. I don't think it's good for the fuel pump or other fuel components to run it dry.
