You're right that everything is not free, but you also forgot to include the cost of the chip burner. Chip burners cost about $100 new from Moates.net. They are high quality and easy to use.
And you also forgot to include the most expensive piece of the tuning "9 yards" which is the wideband A/F meter... With out it u can't tune... and it costs upwards of $250.
So, no it's not a free operation, but it is significantly less using Crome...
