I agree with you that everyone should cross shop. Keep in mind though that his car has 7.1k miles. That's significantly less than 30-40k miles. Of course the best deals can be had at the mileage range you suggest but sometimes people like to spoil themselves. At 7k miles, the car is almost new...and he skimmed a few thousand off the top.
It's not like cars of 50 years ago where a car going 100k miles was amazing. My car has 220k miles. It's a Honda, they last forever. I test drove a black/black 04 TSX with 60k miles and NAVI that I could've bought that day for $20k. This guy didn't even buy the color he wanted. I've been in many cars with 60-100k miles that had no visible wear on them, anywhere. Seems like an impulse buy to me.
