you have to understand, if they make more there is more to sell, if they lean out the production and snag everyone who really wants a fit they can actually make money on it
well they don't have to produce a glut of them. there's a threshold in which they can continue to enjoy the high demand and markup. and the longer people have to wait to get one, the more likely they are to go to toyota/scion, nissan, etc.
Honda says it could sell more but is seriously capacity-constrained due to global demand.
