You absolutly cannot unhook your MAF, that you didn't have, and have your car run normal. It wont know how much air your pulling in and it will then run like shit. It just can't be done.
So, does a '96 LX have a MAF or not? That answers the question right there. I recall unhooking
something, but as it was 6 years ago, I'm not positive it was a MAF sensor.
My check engine light came on as well, BTW.
