"dead" isn't the best way to describe the problem, but from the sound of it... I'd say you have some basic electrical problem. Could be battery, one/both of the connections on the battery, broken pos/neg wires, bad connection at the other end of each cable.

Dunno about up there in canada, eh. But we have some AutoZone type stores that will hookup and do a battery test and alternator test for free. If you got that up there, do it.

If you don't have that, then replace the battery with a new one. That'll at least eliminate a lot of possible problems.
