Timing belts don't cause those symptoms. They just break when they're stressed. The timing belt doesn't need to be replaced at 70K miles. I'd say check into other things like spark plugs, air filter, EGR, etc.
ok so i've already replaced plugs, cleaned my intake manifold as well as the intake itself and cleaned the EGR ports ..... could it be the injectors??
