you guys are going down slippery slopes in either direction
you can legalize prostitution and reduce the effect on the community by:
- zoning where "red light" districts are and make sure they are limited in number, far away from surrounding and impressionable communities and have limited/controlled access
- regulate the age (such as 21 years of age), quality and quantity of the prostitutes by requiring an annual license and regular (maybe weekly) check ups
- heavily tax the transactions and provide the surrounding services and policing with that revenue (it would more than pay for itself and actually contribute tax revenue to the community - similar to what gambling rezoning has done), also make sure the tax is prohibitive enough that being a prostitute is not a "get rich quick" scheme
i think we just need to come to the conclusion that prostitution has been around since the beginning of man and should be legal as women (and to the extent men) control their own bodies and if they really want to sell it they will do it anyway
i don't have a right in any shape or form to tell them otherwise...if it doesn't affect the community's financial well being or safety...the basis of morals and faith should never be the underlying result of a law as you are forcing your opinion and religion on others (this is like Pat Robertson telling the world how they should act including those of varying religions and beliefs)
as for those easily addicted there is always something unhealthy they will attach themselves to...if it's not sex then it's something else
