Well, there should be a shield that diverts the water from the opening. If water is coming though this point, I am assuming something is blocked up or there is a hole where they should not be. Also, the cowel should have a seal that goes around the bottom side that should press against the window. I worked on an Audi last year that flooded itself out cuz a drain hole was clogged with leaves and water entered in a similar manner. To be honest, it seems like a long shot but I am just going off of what he is describing.
