My Grandpa's got a '90 Civic that I was just driving and had transmission problems barely got home. Basically it popped out of 5th gear a couple times on the freeway. The last time I could put it back in 5th gear but its like the car was still in neutral rpm's could just climb. The exit was right there and I exited. Going home from the freeway there was once I couldn't get the car into 1st gear. Finally got it into 2nd and just started in 2nd. Then when I got home the car won't seem to go into any gear now or seems to be stuck in a high gear no matter where you move the shifter. It has been something you can definitely feel in the shifter now, isn't shifting its regular way, won't go into gears. So think I blew this tranny or my bitch pin is out? Oh yeah car has 250,000 but tranny was rebuilt 80,000 ago with new bearings and things.
1st-check your clutch pedal, and make ABSOLUTELY sure that it is disengaging the clutch. Then make sure the clutch release arm on the transmission is moving up far enough to disengage the clutch. Check your clutch cable and adjust if necessary, and make sure your linkage is attached properly and is functioning. If all those things check out okay, then u may need a new clutch.
Removing the transmission is actually not that hard. I can help u if u need instructions, but it's very straightforward. Hopefully, it's not your synchros goin out, but u did say there was a rebuild 80k miles ago, so that shouldn't be the issue.
The broken pedal assembly thing seems to be a common problem. Make sure to check your pedal assembly under the dash to ensure that the clutch pedal is operating properly. Good luck.
