I asked several mechanics (one a transmission specialist) this question about my 98 accord with 93K miles. They said don't mess with it. I asked the honda dealer mechanic and he said do it, moreover he said they flush the transmission with 12 quarts of honda atf with a conditioner added to help clean it, then they refill with fresh fluid. He also told me it would cost $149 and take about 45 minutes. In the end, I decided not to chance messing with it. It's a tough call, there is no clear answer.
