I had a chance to read up more on the 2007 Sentra and I think Honda might want to keep an eye out on this car.
The car is pretty well-equipped for its price and offers a number of features that the Civic lacks, notably that adjustable center cupholder, driver's side storage compartment, a huge glove compartment with optional beverage cooler, and your choice of six-speed manual or CVT automatic transmissions. Also, I can see Nissan getting the 2.0-liter I-4 engine to 140 bhp (SAE 08/04 net), matching the output of the R18 engine on the Civic. I can see Nissan having a price advantage of US$1,000 or more when comparably equipped to a Civic LX/EX sedan.
By the way, given the 2007 Sentra's design, the Nissan Azeal concept car might be a preview of the Sentra SE-R sports coupé, probably powered by the Nissan Altima's 2.5-liter I-4 engine but with the variable-timing valvetrain used on the new Sentra; the engine could be rated as high as 200 bhp (SAE 08/04 net). Interestingly enough, besides the obligatory six-speed manual the SE-R could still offer a CVT automatic, probably the same Xtronic unit used on the Murano crossover SUV.
