92 Prelude Si with no spark - Help!
I recently aquired a 92 Prelude Si 2.3 liter. The vehicle would run for about a mile and then die. You could start the vehicle after waiting about an hour and it would start - this occurred intermittently and now it has no spark at all no matter how long you wait. The vehicle has power up to the coil but will produce no spark from the coil. I purchased a new coil and the same event occurs. I have attached a tool from the coil lead to the coil wire that measures spark through an indicator light and no light appears. I have voltage in the black/yellow wire of the coil harness while the key is in the run position. I have voltage going to the igniter. The car is stock. I aquired it Saturday from a friend who has owned it since 95. He replaced the distributor 1 year ago. The plugs and plug wires are all new (bosch). The cap and rotor all look clean and new with no cracks. Again, there is power running from the coil wiring harness (black/yellow wire/12 volts) when unplugged from the coil and tested with the key in the run position. Once the wiring harness is plugged in, there is no spark coming from the brand new coil. I jumpered the computer data port and no flashing occurs from the check engine light-it stays solid. All the fuses are good (under the dash and under the hood). The only thing left to do is replace the igniter, cap and rotor but I dont want to throw money at parts if not needed. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I might go from here? Can you test the igniter?
