Default Cap and Rotor...

I just replaced my distributor cap and rotor, and upon replacing the rotor, I messed up the screw that retains it. Is this absolutely necessary in keeping the rotor where it is, or am I fine w/o it until I could get a screw. Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
