you can also run the wires from the solenoid to a switch or a button... i had it like that on my first single cam... which was a dx block with a single cam vtec head...and a non-vtec ecu..i connected it to the button on my racing steering wheel and when the rpm was reasonable i would just hold the button in to engage vtec... after that i bought a p28 and rewired the vtec solenoid to the ecu... you dont have to buy the whole Si harness or whatever...but if you do want one u can buy the cheaper VX harness which comes already wired for VTEC... i have a couple laying around my garage... if u need one let me know....
