Are you sure? Last time I ran a 50ft CAT5 from my moden to the router...it didnt work. I replaced the cable with a 10ft one and relocated the router closer to the modem. It worked :dunno:
if he already has a 50ft cable running now to the computer... it "should" run with the router instead. i have a 50 footer running to one of my computers and i was getting some packet loss. It was probably due to the cable being faulty or just too long and not being able to transmit over the distance. I ended up adding a switch on the other end and its been working fine
