what they fail to mention in that article (conveniently) is that 56k in one area of the country is like making 36k in another part of the country due to the high cost of living. Anyone try living in some of these high population areas they mention on the amount of "average income" they also mention? Probably couldn't do it and if you could you sure wouldn't be living all that well.
You're probably right. I saw that crabbing show on the discovery channel, those crabbing guys make thousands in the few days of whatever crabbing season... Add that to your regular 9 to 5 job, and you make some hot money. I didn't think that fishing/crabbing employed that many people though.
