Get a new mechanic
Did he look at the rotors? Did he measure them? If not, he has no clue if your rotors need turned or replaced.
I'd get them turned if nothing else. It's not expensive. Take the rotors in, and the will put them in a machine that will resurface them. Around here it's $30 for a pair.
If you feel shaking in the steering, I'd bet money it's the rotors!
