i4 and v6 do not use the same tranny.

Wrong on all accounts. i4 and V6 Accords use the same transmission, and both the i4 and V6 models were covered under the 00-01 transmision warranty as both were prone to premature failure as a result of bad carrier bearings. The failure rate was at 3% when Honda issued the warranty/recall, that was several years ago and the percentage has increased since that time and will continue to as the 6th gens age and mileage increases.

The problem may have been more widespread among the V6 models, I'll give you that... but the 4-cylinders were certainly affected as well.
