New cars are fine to drive during the break in period, just don't floor the engine or go over 55mph for the first 1000 miles.

After the first 1000 miles, drain and fill your transmission fluid (do not flush). During break in, your gears are grinding for the 1st time. You'll find the most metallic mess within the first 1K.

Also, do an oil change.
