I had a problem after changing my engine where that wire would heat up and melt on me when I was trying to start the car (the car started hard also). I replaced the wire and ran another wire from my negative battery cable to my engine block, by the distributor. I also ran another wire from my body in front to the engine block in back. Haven't had a problem since.
