Turn your car on and keep it in park. Have everything as quiet as it can be and slowly apply the brakes. When the brake lights go on you should hear a relay click for the shift release. If you don't then you might need a new relay. Take out the center counsole up to the dash and take off the black part of your shifter, where it says the gears. Check around there for connections and cables that are disconnected or any objects obstructing any working parts.
