You can do the washer trick on the rear since you have a 97. Search for the info.

The more drop you get, the more correction you'll need. With a 1.5, might not any...2.25, count on it.

For the front, see what people have good luck with. My 6th gen has pretty high tolerances up front...I have about 1.75-2.0 up front, and it's still in the specs. Not sure how 5th gens differ.
