Default Broadband Advice

So my mom needs to enter the world of broadband (finally). She wants to get rid of AOL dial-up which has been a tedious task to say the least. Between AOL and a second phone line, she is paying approximately $50/month and would like to keep the price around there, with some flexibility. Here is some background:

- She has Dish Network and has absolutely no desire to switch to Comcast cable.
- She cannot get Verizon because she is too far from the CO (I believe that this is due to her living in a 40 year old neighborhood that has not been updated)
- Speed is not the largest of factors as anything is faster than what she has now.

The two options I have found so far are:
- Comcast, $58/month + $3.00 modem rental
- Speakeasy One Point ($56, 1.5mps/384)

Any comments on the two choices? Does anyone have any other ideas? All help is appreciated.
