Default Questions for all the experts

I have some question on the operation of my new (3 week old) ’06 Accord EX Coupe that I haven’t been able to determine from reading the Owners Manual. I am hoping someone here can break it down for me so that a nOOb like me can understand.

A/C:

1. I am assuming that if I shut off the A/C and instead turn on the vents I will increase my gas mileage. On a ’06 Accord EX Coupe how exactly do you turn on the vents? Do you turn off the A/C then just turn the fan speed up and if that is it, what does the recirculation button do, does that play a part in weather or not the Vent is on?

2. If I turn the A/C off but need to use the front defroster will that use as much gas as if I had the A/C on and was using the front defroster? Or can the fan speed determine that?

3. The recirculation button if on with A/C on putts less strain on the system then if it were off, correct?

Automatic Transmission:

1. I live in a very hilly part of the country; as such I am often downshifting into 2nd gear when going down hills in the attempt to save my breaks. Breaks aren’t covered under warranty, transmission is :-) Once I have shifted down to second gear and have reached the bottom of the hill more often than not I will shift back into “D”, what would I do if I accidentally shift into neutral with the car still moving, going between 20 and 25 MPH? Can I just realize my mistake and put it in gear, or do I have to come to a complete stop, and then put it in gear?

Well, that’s all for now, really really like this car, it is so darn fun to drive :-)
