Yes, you are correct, the "branded" fuels (Chevron, Texaco, Shell, etc.) do get dumped with additives that help keep the rail and injectors cleaner than 10-20 years ago.

With that said, I don't "get them cleaned", but do add a bottle of cleaner in every now and then. Well, really, I'll buy three bottles at a time and try to remember to dump one in about every month or so, over a period of 3 months. I try to do this about once a year.



The engine in this car looks "dirty" internally, so I changed the oil as soon as I got it home and dumped in some Marvel Mystery Oil. I'm gonna run it for about 1k miles and change it again. The oil looked dirty after just 50 miles.


But this car runs great. A little $ and work to get it where I want it and it will be a great work, school and loafering car. Especially since they just changed the signs today to $3.099.
