I know this is too late of a reply now since you already got the job done, but the same thing happened to me when I needed to fix my CV boots - I spent about 4 hours trying my hardest to get the axle nut off with no success. Finally, since I didn't have much dissassembled anyways, I put it all back together and drove to a gas station with a repair shop half a mile away. Since they weren't busy, the guy there helped me out and used his impact wrench to loosen it (took him 5-10 seconds), then tightened it back up so I could drive home. Once there, it came off with no problems since it had been broken loose earlier.
