fjm1 has a good point. Try it out and don't force it. If it takes you a few tries, don't dismay. This type of shifting is a style and an art that takes practice. If you hear a small gear grind as you shift into the next gear, you may not have hit the gear at the exact moment.

You want to be able to pull the trans out of gear without clutch and a moment later slip it into the next without the clutch. I used to do this daily until I got complacent and started smelling clutch, then I stopped and use the clutch now. But... it is still the perfect way to diagnose your syncro.
