i have a 5th gen, the guage will move alot if on inclines, or making a wide long turn, even if the take is close to full, but not while normally driving on level surfaces or braking, unless if you brake extremely fast. I get about 25 mpg, combo city and highway (city is alot of stop and go, and to add to that there is construction everywhere).
