thats only a problem with 5th gens.

I've been quoted from $700-$1500 for converting to 5spd. but honestly, I love automatic waaaay too much h: stick is fun, but auto lets you multi-task.

btw, for the past 90,000 miles on my car, I've driven it downshifting and upshifting on the autostick. sure, it sucks to not drop down into first, but my tranny hasn't suffered much for a car with 150k miles. and its fun as hell. just be sure you always park it with the ebrake up
