At the time of Fear & Loathing, he was a voice for the people who no longer trusted the government. That sentiment was rooted in the fact that the government no longer trusted the people. It was a mutual disdain that we're almost re-living today.

Before we wander even farther off-topic, I'll make my point.
Thompson is seen by many as a scofflaw...but he was not a reckless thug. He did what he did in a very specific context with a definite purpose. By comparison, street racing is a selfish and incredibly dangerous way of feeding an adrenaline addiction.

So with that in mind, I wholeheartedly support any effort to curb street racing... and to make 1/4mi track racing venues acsessable and affordable.
Word, I'll agree with that, still kinda funny though... because though he had his causes, the amount of drugs he's done... i'd imagine him pretty reckless at times too.

Kudos tho, Fear & loathing is the only novel I have in my cubicle.
