Hunter was a renegade, that's for sure... but he had just cause.
At the time of
Fear & Loathing, he was a voice for the people who no longer trusted the government. That sentiment was rooted in the fact that the government no longer trusted the people. It was a mutual disdain that we're almost re-living today.
Before we wander even farther off-topic, I'll make my point.
Thompson is seen by many as a scofflaw...but he was not a reckless thug. He did what he did in a very specific context with a definite purpose. By comparison, street racing is a selfish and incredibly dangerous way of feeding an adrenaline addiction.
So with that in mind, I wholeheartedly support any effort to curb street racing... and to make 1/4mi track racing venues acsessable and affordable.
