Fuel System problems
Hey guys, I've got a 95 Del Sol and I'm having a major problem with my fuel system. I put the car out for sale on the side of the road and less than a week later somebody stole my seats out of it. I tried to drive the car home (while sitting on a stool) so I could get new seats and put them in and suddenly the car won't start.
My brother (a mechanic) and I look at it and determine the engine isn't getting any gas. We took the top hose off the fuel filter and no gas was coming out when you tried to start the car. We figured hey maybe the fuel filter is bad, let's take the bottom hose off and see if we're getting gas coming into the filter.
No dice.
Process of elimination leads us to the fuel pump. I take out the back console and replace the fuel pump. Still nothing, no gas making it through the lines to the fuel filter and the engine.
Okay. Must be the main relay. Looking through the Chilton manual makes it seem like it must be that. We need to test it and see. Take out the relay, run a jumper (some speaker wire) from the relay's battery terminal slot to the fuel filter terminal slot and when we turn on the key you can suddenly hear the fuel filter start pumping.
Eureka!! Must be the main relay, right? No fuel pumping with it in, fuel pumps when we bypass it. So I get a new main relay and plug it in. Still nothing. Can't hear the pump come on and no gas is getting to the engine.
So do any of you guys have any idea what else could be the problem? Thanks in advance for your help.
