hey, you probally know this. but from experience. get the engine to about 80f. loosen and adjust valves (do not tighten the locknuts) let cool completely the torque tighten the nuts. warm engine to 80f again check clearance. I know it sounds so painstaking but ill tell you, you do it like that, you will do it only once, no clapping and no overlift.
All manuals I've ever read say to do this job after overnight cold. I recommend sticking with these instructions.
