I don't agree with that, especially on Hondas. I think I had to have $400 worth of work done to my car (aside from routine maintenance) between 36k and 100k miles. If the warranty went at 150k it'd be a different story, but as long as you maintain the car well and don't beat on it I don't think you need to spend at extra $1200 for it. Hell, I got my whole tranny replaced for less than that.

kenton: automatics have better resale value because they're more desirable. And the shift point thing is exactly what I was saying, I've driven other cars where it's nearly impossible to choose when to shift.
