I only paid $25k. ...welllll... it was $98k new though I was more comparing an 8 year old car to a new accord since it seemed that the accord tranny was a godsend. They aren't bad, but they aren't great, not even in their class, although the 7g 5sp auto is pretty decent for it's class, but personally I think my buddy's trailblazer has a nicer shifting tranny than my accord did. I had many occasions before putting on the tranny cooler that my accords tranny went bonkers on me, pretty much ignored the pedal position and flaked out(got too hot). I had one time it just refused to shift at all while I was towing my jetski up to the lake. I pulled over, put it in park, then back in drive and it seemed ok. Of course when I took it to the dealer there was no problem found, they even said the tranny fluid looked good, so something went wierd with it.

Our commutes are probably way different though. I commute 15 miles each way. It takes me anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour to make it each way, on average it takes 40 minutes in nasty stop and go traffic. The driving here is hellish on trannies.
