Compaq in their infinite wisdom decided to attach the hinges directly to the LCD cover. The LCD cover on the Presario 700s is made out of plastic, very brittle (over time) plastic. The only peice of metal in the whole entire LCD assembly is a tiny, pop can gauge backing plate. Consequently the plastic cracked right around the hinges and one day, the entire LCD assy seperated from the base. The only thing holding it together was the cable. The second one had just about every component replaced save the DVD drive and the processor. I made them take it back and got a refund.
