"doing something right" isn't the right idea - they were just in the right place at the right time. musically speaking, they're a complete joke. although their drummer is pretty decent, they are for the most part, lacking in any sort of musical talent or skill. give a mediocre guitar player a one day, and he can learn an entire blink 182 album. on the other hand, if you take a jimi hendrix or metallica album, it could take an accomplished guitarist a lifetime to master. that is not to say that their music doesn't have any value. as long as people like it, it has some value. the beatles, for example, weren't the most musically skilled group at all. but how will people remember blink 182 in ten years? or even five years? what separates really great music from mediocre or shitty music is the test of time
