I would say have an experienced VW mechanic do a pre purchase inspection and see what needs to be replaced fixed. Then use that information to make a counter offer.

to me, they just seem to drive nicer, maybe they have different spring rates to make up for the weight up front :dunno: they seem much more firm and responsive to me.

as for long term reliability, my gf's dad has a 92 passat wagon with somewhere in the neighborhood of 215-220k.... so thats testament that the cars last :dunno:
