Since I was a ski instructor back in high school and college I saw more injuries from snow borders than skiers their 1st time out. Why? Because when you fall on skiis your skiis detach from you. Whereas you fall on snow boards most people do the "stick hands out in front of you and break your wrists or dislocate your shoulders" move.

Not to stir some noise but if you have never done it then you wouldn't know
I have taken some pretty major spills on snowboard and come out without a scratch on board and heard experienced skiers say they would have been on a stretcher from that kind of fall on skis.
I instructed for three years and have been riding for over 12 and the worst I have ever gotten was a dislocated shoulder due to something I could have prevented but was showing off.
