Here's what an FD needs:

- Replace stock plastic air separator tank with an aluminum one, or get an AST removal kit (I prefer to go an aluminum replacement, keeps the function and the aluminum adds underhood bling)

- Ditch the stock down pipe. It has a pre-cat which, due to the high heat it is subjected to, tends to barf up its packing which then travels to the main cat and clogs it up which almost totally chokes off the exhaust.

- The stock cooling system is pretty wimpy. Swapping to a Miata thermoswitch starts circulating coolant at a lower temp which helps a little bit. But especially when power is increased over stock, going to a beefy aftermarket radiator helps a ton. A vented hood to help airflow through the radiator is good too.

Things that are likely needed:

- The fuel filter is a bitch to replace and it's the same part as a Miata. It's usually been neglected and is way worn out because a 255 hp RX-7 flows a lot more fuel than a 140 hp Miata.

- The suspension bushings are all ball joints, and they're usually worn out.

- The engine and diff mounts are usually worn out.

- If you do a few bolt-on mods like an exhaust, an intercooler, whatever, at the very least you need an electronic boost controller to keep the motor from blowing up, and with more than a few mods it's good to get an A'PEXi Power FC.

Consider it a project. h:
