its probably valve lash adjustment

as far as the autotensioner thing...i had one fail a while ago, and yes the ones that they currently sell will also eventually fail. The thing is that they are only rated to last as long as the Timing belt itself, the tensioner is required to be changed with the belt so if you change it every time you shouldnt have a problem.
