The reason most people are complete bastards to the environment, though, is because of 2 things: Short-sighted economics and lack of personal responsibility. The whole economic arguement against the environment is based on shortsighted needs of companies to make returns within 2 years to be competative with our economy, ubt that's more of a failure of the insititution than the company itself (As the company's true sole responsibility is to maximize profit. It's up to the system to make it so that environmentally sound conduct is what's most profitable). The second is that everyone says "Oh, I'm one little person of 6 billion... what impact to I personally have?". Well, with the Us consuming 50% of the world's resources, I'd say we have a fairly large personal impact. We have to realize we all have to work together to protect ourselves, and every person's imput counts. And if that smart decision is to decide to reduce your gasoline consumption by half, and just half of the US makes the same decision, the impact would be monumental.



But yeah, the reason we haven't switched to a cleaner fuel is that the people in power would start to lose money, and so they prioritize their money over our health. That's the way its been for the last 20 years or so...
