Shooting isn't like it is in the movies, much more difficult to hit a human size target when the SHTF, let alone a small moving target, usually in the dark.
I also think its funny that those who have NO CLUE are trying to answer the question about the laws

If you, as a reasonable person, have a reasonable fear of grave bodily harm or death then would be theoretically justified in shooting to kill.
also, you don't shoot to wound, you shoot to stop the threat. In real life when shot, you don't fly back ten feet and die. Many times assailants don't know they have been shoot and will keep attacking, especially drugged up bad guys. You shoot to stop the threat, sometimes thats one shot COM ( center of mass, chest) other times it a lot more than that.
yeah if I ever had one and had to use it to then I'm putting two center mass and 2 in the head.
