It might be more of a pain in the ass for you to remove it then youre willing to put forth as it requires the complete removal of the dash in order to take it out. see my recent post about dash swap between 96-98 to 99-00 to see what youd be in for just to remove the ac box. I would suggest just removing lines and compressor if youre just looking for weight savings.
depends on the model year...I got my evaporator out by simply removing the glove box on my 95.
