I needed the summit kit because I don't want the battery exposed to crap bouncing around in the back... I wouldn't mind making my own, but I do need the box and the anchoring equipment, so I figured what the heck, and I went with the the complete kit. The cables and connections only account for a small portion of the price of the kit, which is pretty reasonably priced to begin with.
